Steve and Maureen Wilson began as pioneers in the self storage industry in 1977 with hardly any other storage facilities in their markets. Ever since Hide-Away Storage opened its first storage facility, it’s been clear that God has continued to bless the company and He has allowed the company to pursue its purpose of serving its customers, employees, and the community with excellence. “I’ve no doubt that He will continue to keep His good hand on Hide-Away. And one day we will be seen as one of the country’s leading innovators in a new generation of self-storage that is aimed – as our company purpose statement declares - at 'serving our customers with excellence', says Steve Wilson.

The first Hide-Away Storage facility opened in Bradenton, FL, at 32nd Street & Cortez Road in September 1977. Since then, Hide-Away has developed nine additional storage facilities on the West Coast of Florida stretching from St. Petersburg to Naples. The company also purchased one facility in Bradenton and divested itself of one facility in Naples (please see timeline at end of article for more details).

The average facility size is 92,000 square feet, or an average of about 850 storage spaces per facility. The total square footage of all of our facilities is about 1,000,000 square feet, which is the equivalent of about 20 football fields.
Through the 1980s and into the mid-1990s, Hide-Away Storage continued to grow at a steady pace, with its last traditional self-storage facility opening in Ft. Myers in 1997.
2000 – The Start of Mobile Operations
In 2000, Hide-Away began servicing customers in the Bradenton/Sarasota area with Mobile Storage. Over the next four years, the company’s Mobile operations expanded to multiple leased warehouses in Bradenton/Sarasota and also in Naples/Ft. Myers. In addition, Hide-Away began providing moving services to its customers to increase its ability to serve its customers with excellence and fulfill its “Storage Made Easy” commitment.
In 2004 and 2005, Hide-Away consolidated its Mobile operations from leased warehouse space to company-developed and owned warehouses in Ft. Myers and Sarasota. In 2005, Hide-Away further expanded its Mobile Storage operations into the Tampa Bay area.
